We’re stepping it up for young handlers, as we want you to show off your videography skills, as well as how well the young people handle their cattle.
Competition rules
Any young handler in the correct age bracket can enter.
Class 1 - Young handler under 13 on 31 July 2020
Class 2 - Young handler between the age of 13 and 18 on 1 August 2020
Class 3 - Fancy dress - any age up to 18 on 1 August 2020
Cattle must be registered with the Highland Cattle Society. Calves must have the cow registered with the Society, and entries sent by a Society member.
Bulls can be birth notified if under 14 months old.
For classes 1 and 2, one videos is required showing the young handler leading the animal and making it stand. Youngsters may have help, if needed.
Start each video with the young handler’s name and then they can say how they prepared their animal.
Make the videos 1-2 minutes long - no need for a long film! We will only judge the first few minutes if it is.
How to enter
Entries must state the class, age and name of the young handler, and UK number of animal or dam UK number if a calf. Also state your name and your fold name.
Send them via Facebook Messenger to Highland Cattle Society page.
Entries are free but there will be a link to donate to our two charities, RSABI and RABI, whichever you prefer.
Judging and results
Judging will take place in August and the results will be announced at the end of the month.
We will post the results in social media and send to the press. Please let us know in your message, if you do not want the young handler's details and videos to be made public.
