The breed record for Highland females was well and truly smashed at the breed’s spring sale in Oban on Monday, when the overall show champion from Sunday’s show went on to make 35,000gns in the ring – some 15,000gns ahead of the previous female best.

Highland cattle defied all the odds to record a strong trade for both bulls and heifers at their spring sale in Oban on Monday – with a record average for yearling heifers leading the charge.

A large presence of UK and overseas breeders ensured a good trade for Highland cattle at Oban on Monday where a top price of 22,000gns was paid for the overall male champion.

History was well and truly made at the 131st annual spring show and sale of Highland cattle at Oban on Monday, when a new breed record of 27000gns was achieved for a three-year-old bull from the Sorne fold at Kirriemuir, Angus.

A recent online sale of Highland cattle conducted by Aberdeen and Northern Marts saw trade reach a top of 2400gns for an in-calf cow from the Hunters fold.
