Heights and weights

For the last eight years, the Highland Cattle Society has been collecting data on bull heights and weights at our February show and sale. This is for all 2-year-old and 3-year-old bulls forward for the sale, in addition to collecting data on testicle size at the time of bull registration.

The reason for this is to have a database of information we can use to help promote the breed and track trends in a changing market. This report is to be used only as an information sheet to provide insights.

We have seen in recent years the weight of the 2-year-old bulls forward has dropped slightly compared to that of the data collected prior to 2020.

2-year-old bulls average weight in February 2025 was 597kg, down from 607.5kg from the previous year.

3-year-old bulls average weight was 743kg, which is very similar to the previous year.

Bull testicle size at registration between 14-18 months have been reaching around 33cm.
