130th Annual Spring Sale
Members will have seen that United Auctions in Oban are holding a pedigree Highland sale on 8 March. This sale is not under the auspices of the Society and, as we notified you in the Bulletin on 8 January, we have reluctantly decided to hold a virtual only sale this year probably at the beginning of March.
None of us knows what Covid-related restrictions will be in place by early March. Many people think restrictions may be tighter. Even if they are not, then assuming the vaccination programmes across the nations of the UK go ahead as currently planned, they will not have provided enough protection to everyone by then for us all to be safe. It is likely that restrictions on travel and contact will still apply, and that availability of accommodation will be highly uncertain throughout the coming weeks. We are concerned to keep all our members safe and provide certainty of the sale we can offer. That has been our primary concern.
This decision, as we said in Friday's Bulletin, is not a precedent, it is simply a pragmatic response to exceptional circumstances. We will provide further details of the virtual sale shortly. In the meantime, please have look at sellmylivestock.com where you will see that some other breed societies use it for pedigree sales. Whichever form of sale members decide is best suited to their individual needs in this unique period we will do our best to support you.
